Default 03 Roadking engine work

I have a 03 roadking fuel injected with the stage 1 breather kit with 30,000 miles. My dealer told me he would install a Big Bore Stage II kit ( 203 cams) a Heavy Breather Performance Air cleaner and the Screaming Eagle 6 speed trans gear set for about 3800. My first question is, is this a good set up? I'm not looking to make a hot rod but I want some get up and go juice. I travel 2 up a lot and a 200 mile day is not uncommon. Is this a good price? Doing the work myself is out of the question.

Might help if you itemize the parts prices.

I don't see spending the bucks on a 6 speed.

I just spent roughly the same amount to upgrade a new Fat Bob from 96" to a 103" Stage IV race kit with SE260 cam, full Rinehart 2-1 exhaust. The bike already had the 6-speed transmission, so it's not an exact comparison.

How much bang for the buck do you want? Where do you want your power to change? Are you OK with some reduced fuel economy as a result of the changes you plan to make? Do they have a map to ensure the engine fires smoothly after making the changes (e.g. you don't want detonation pings or quirks). How many times have they done this kind of job?

I'd make sure you have a good discussion with your builder about what you want, understand the trade-offs, and then get a decent quote so you can discuss it with competitors.

Whether it's a good price or not depends upon if you get what you want out of it.

Before you go forward with this level of upgrades, consider the dollars you have into the bike already, and if you want to keep it for several more years. You may want to switch to a newer bike that has a six speed in it already. Late model pre '09 bikes have values dropping quickly due to the economy and changes on the '09' and are readily available.

The dealer has a special that they will install the Big Bore kit for 1550. The more work they do the more of a discount they will give me on labor and parts. So if I get the 6 speed installed he'll charge me less labor since they are already performing engine work. Some people have told me if you get the Big Bore Kit get a 6 speed. Others have said you don't need it.
Are there better setups than this? Since I'm going through the dealer I'm stuck using H-D stuff. I don't know any quality mechanics to perform good work.
