Default First Engine Upgrade

Looking for feedback. I just bought an '05 Road Glide stock. I'd like to see a healthy dose of increased torque through the power band. Will the 95" kit with new pipes and HD ECM be enough, or should I just go to 103"? Is the extra money worth it for the 103"? Riding with the bags packed in Tennesee mountains last weekend, it really bogged down.

I don't have 103 experiance, but pipes, breather, fuel system, cams and 95 cubes gives the bike quite a bit more kick. The cost to go to a 103 is much higher since you have to split cases etc.

Have you tried the stage 1 air cleaner kit with pipes yet? They made a big difference in my 2005 Road king from stock!

I have a Ultra Classic, 95ci, V&H slipons, breather, cam, etc.., and it runs well. Is it fast enough? No.. but, a 103 with cam would not be that much better I don't think. Please bear in mind, I have not ridden a 103 - just seen specs.... Back to 95ci, looking at the dynos on the Stage II as compared to the 103 with cam, the $$ dif isnt was not worth it to me... I think the suggestion of trying a Stage I upgrade is a good one. If you look at the bang for the buck where HP/TQ is concerned, the Stage I is very effective/efficient and everything you do (except the download) you use on any other upgrade.

Hi all,

Am new to this forum. Looks good so far. I have an 03 FLHRCI and just completed engine mods;

95" big bore cylinders (opted out of 103 as did not want to get into case)
HTCC CNC ported heads
HTCC forged pistons
compression release
SE Race Tuner
SE 260 cam
Bub True duals
Hooker tuned exhaust
And some stuff my brain isn't remembering at the moment.

Someone wrote on here that their face hurt due to being so happy. I am so happy with the build. The sound it makes with the hookers, cam/compression is too much. I start laughing while I'm riding it as it performs so well and sounds amazing. Have 600 miles on the break in. Will have it dyno'd at 1000 miles. Part cost alone was what I considered comparable to the 103. So, that's my story. Good luck. I look forward to hearing what you decide.

I have the 05 FLHTCI with the 95 " kit. Does a good job but my riding buddy with an 03 FLHTI and factory built (thats the way to go) 103" motor will blow me away. That set up will lay rubber for as long as you can keep the bike upright. Uses a little more fuel but add a 6 speed trans and you got the perfect set up. Get the motor built from HD then have the dealer do a swap out. If you do the math youll come out ahead not only with a new properelly built warrantied motor but you will also have your original to sell. Plus the 103 from HD comes with the engine chrome kit installed.

Electric Glide Classic w/Big Bore Kit (95), ordered the following:
204 Cam (Mid-Range)
4 Degree Drive Gear (drop RPMS)
Quick Install Push Rods (if needed)
Samson Headers w/shields (going to use SE slipons for now)

Will reply back when completed to notify of change, dealership gave me this due to same problem I had riding with wife in the Hill Country of Texas.

Well I had a slight change in cam, got the 2.04 with the drive gear, Samson Headers wi/SE slipons, Race Tuner. I see quite a difference, quicker throttle response, of course louder but not to the point of holding my ears, nice sounding riding, Dealer stated to bring back in after 500 to 1000 miles to remap, they will be able to get more out of it after the cam breaks in.

Still Riding,

phatom I would think the big bore kit with 203 or 204 cam's would do the trick, if you want a little more get some SE head's and bolt on that puppy also, that will wake her up.
