Default Power Commander for 2005 Touring Models?

Fellow enthusiasts,

I was ready to by a new PCIII USB for my bike the other day, when the local Harley store told me that Harley's 2005 models have been having trouble with the PCIII maps. They wanted me to buy the SE Race Tuner instead.

I wanted to give the guys at Dynojet a chance to respond to this, so I sent them this email:

Subject: PC III USB for a 2005 FLHRCI

I was ready to purchase a PCIII USB for my 2005 HD Road King Classic when the local Harley dealer said that 2005 year models have been having trouble with the PCIII maps. They wanted me to buy a Screamin Eagle Race Tuner instead (at $100 more). I haven't bought either yet. I did a lot of research on the Power commander and I haven't found anything yet to back up that claim.

Have you had any complaints about your Power commanders not working well with 2005 year model Touring Harleys? I'm not doing anything cosmic to the bike, just adding some V&H Classic slip-ons and a SE stage 1 breather kit.

Thanks for your input.

Here is Dynojet's reply...

Ed,

That is not true. We have sold thousands of units for 2005 HD's and there is no inherent problem with using them. They actually work quite well on these bikes as they are not mapped properly from the factory, especially with exhaust/intake changes.

Thanks,

He said...she said! So, has anyone reading this forum put a power commander on their 2005 Harley? If so, have you had any problems?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

Did you call another Harley dealer? It might be that the local one is just trying to get you to buy HD parts. Do a little more checking with dealers in your area and see what they say. Wish I could help more.
