Its that time of year again here in the Northeast and I need to get some work done to my bike. I have a lot of blow by and power loss on my 2011 FLHTK 103 with 44k on it. I need to get some things done, new belt and new shocks and some engine work.
My question to you all is what should I look to do? HD dealer is running 35% off all labor so I want to take advantage of that. They have suggested the SE stage 3 110 big bore kit, the 103 stage 3 kit, (both with the 585 cams).
I am a long ride tourer. I get on it when I need to but, usually run about 80-85 on the hwy 2 up.
I know i need the work done but, not sure if I should just get the old cylinders honed and upgrade the cams or go for the 110.
i would look aftermarket even with 35% off labor u should be able to find a kit from a engine builder that will give u more "bang for the buck" and it will be built by a guy whis livelihood depends on his reputation and not some kid at a dealership who's main goal is di it fast and get bonus money for doing it fast.
Haven't been hearing good things about the 110 drop in kits. Head to the Rushmore section and check out the "ticking" threads.
Especially if you're on a budget, buy some new take off 103 parts to replace yours and get some head work done. Apples to apples tuning on a 103 vs a 110 really doesn't yield that big of a difference. My 103 runs stronger than two of my buddies 110s. That 7 c.i. really doesn't do much other than increase ***** size at bike night.
The HD Dealer is not the place to shop "performance".
there are aftermarket solutions, proven packages which will cost 1/2 and likely deliver twice the added power of a HD kit.
new belt- is yours damaged? or did someone tell you to do this- the belt is cheap but the labor will be expensive to pull the primary drive and swingarm
Thanks guys, I will shop around. I am on a budget but need to get the work done. I am doing the belt because I am at the end of my adjustment. I am surprised that after 44k it is stretched or the sproket is worn but, it needs to be changed.
I've just had the 110 stage 3 with SE585 cams installed in my 16 Breakout from new. I love it. Bags of torque and it has a slight edge off the mark to my mates 120R Fatboy. I also own a 14 Wide Glide with a stage 1 and they just don't compare. The only problem with it was the tolerance was too tight on one of the jugs so we had to give it a hone before assembly.
