Just wondering. Any ideas on how long a factory battery should last? 2006 Street glide still cranking over. I don't want to get stuck with a dead battery.
My 06 ultra was new in Oct of 05. It was starting to turn over a little slow
so I bought a new batt from San Jose H-D $160.00 Including tax. that was not
installed I took it home and installed it myself. turned out that the Ground cable
was not tight my 06 Battery was still good. Oh well I have a new one now.
I think my bike still has the original. I bought the bike in 05, but it is an 02. Just ride the bike regularly. I have never used a battery tender. Of course there is year round riding weather here.
These Gel Batteries last a lot longer, I got 5 yrs out of my '01 but that was just leaving sit dormant all winter in WI, since I changed it I now use a batt tender and keep it on all winter. We'll see how long this one lasts. Back in the day with the old Batt's you were lucky to get 3yrs. Even with my Shovel now those haven't changed.
I bought an 09 and found out myself that the battery cables were not tight. You need to learn to double check these things on your own. Sooner or later the connections would have given me trouble if I didnt check them. Get in the habit of going over your own bike, especially right after any Dealer touches it.
