This is more of a bump than an answer to your questions. Your speakers are probably 4" in the front and rear. HD switched to 5.25" speakers in about '98 or so and still uses speaker adapters to mount them. You can buy the speaker adapters from HD. When I put speakers in my '04 police model EG I had to buy the adapters.
Give Biketronics.com a call to confirm speaker size and adapters. Another issue will be the ohm rating of the headunit in your bike.
Not sure on the size, but I would suggest, contacting either Hogtunes, of Firecap501 for stereo advice... those walmart speakers arent going to do anything for you except for waste your time installing them!
Wal-Mart sells Sony Xplod 5.25" 4-way speakers for $40. I've had them in my bike for 3+ years and they sound good--received a number of compliments over the years. Haven't conducted a side-by-side test with other brands, and I'm not an audiophile. But these have worked well for 50K miles with a Sony headunit.
