i am ordering a chrome front end kit from H-D for my 08 roadking, need to know if i need anything other than fork oil. are there seals with the kit? any advise would be appreciated
Get new seals! Get fork oil...and a bit of patience wont hurt!
Id also get a extra washer that goes under the seal...you can put it on top of the seal when driving the new seals into the new legs. You will need a piece of pvc pipe to drive the seals...hell ive used a split paint roller before...creativity helps
What Timvan says, + the service manual!
If no Manual - make sure you loosen the Damper screws at the bottom of the fork while the top caps are still on and in the triple clamps - the springs must be loaded.
Long shank 6 MM allen socket for removing damper screws (hidden by the front axle until you get the front wheel off) --This is required & not easy to find so start looking now. Dont get the kind that has the rounded end on it becuse it will just spin and screw-up the allen bolt.
This is MUCH easier if you have access to an impact wrench (electric or pneumatic). Trust me --those 6MM allen bolts are very difficult to remove unless you have an impact wrench or a bro that has one.
Other than that have new seals available for the chrome lowers. Pay attention to what the others have said.
