Default HID Headlight - Yes/No

I really love the added light HID headlights give. I saw a couple at my chapter HOG meeting tonight, and they pitched it a little bit for safety during Bike Week. So, it's $500.

The question is - if money wasn't the issue would you add the HID light to your bike?

If money was no issue we'd all be riding screaming eagles!

I went the other route. When a rock took out the factory headlight, I replaced it with a Sylvania headlight from Pep Boys for $20. Gives plenty of light.

I like the additional light I get from the HD fog lights I have on the crashbar. A lot cheaper than HID and with 5 head lights on the front, everyone sees me!

I remember reading that the Sylvania Bulbs (whatever technology they are called) are a step up in the right direction at a fraction of the cost of H.I.D. I may have to look into those.

No need to pay $500. Lottsa aftermarket kits out there. If you have the stock 7" bulb you can upgrade to this set up.

If you have the HD dual bulb Just do the low beam from someone like these guys.

I didn't vote cause I didn't pay $500 for mine. Not even close.

I got Howards HID headlight and once you have a HID headlight, regular headlight bulbs wont cut it

Howards website >>> http://www.motorcyclemetal.com/index.html

He knows his stuff and will work with you on your install if there are and problems

I have thought about it, I think I would look into Howards or some other options vs $500 for HD. I love the idea of a brighter light, just don't have that much cash for it right now.

I got mine from Motorcycle Metal back when he was running his $150 special. There's no comparison between it and the cheap $20 knockoffs. I have more people comment on the HID than anything else about the bike.

Thats quite a jump in price now from 150 to 247 ????? I like the idea of HID but from 247 to 500 I don't think it makes that much difference. My wife has HID in her Z350 & it is nice but? Fornow I think I will stick with the Silver Star. JMO

I went another route for better lighting that didn't cause financial trauma. A simple headlight change to Hella E-code ($34) and higher-powered bulbs (80/100w, $8). The pattern of these E-code headlights is far superior to the non-fluted stock lenses and IMO any domestic SAE headlight, and the higher-powered bulbs add even more. The wiring for FLH bikes is sufficient for a 100w high-beam, but I'm not sure about using the 80w low-beam with passing lamps. I don't have these extra lights so its not an issue with me, but if you do it might be wise to add a simple automotive relay to the low-beam circuit. Or, just buy the 55/100W bulbs and you're covered.
