Finding S.E.R.T
Hey all,
I have a new '06 Street Glide, just approaching 500 mi. Love the bike, but will be getting floating rotors to kill the brake squeel, and I'm wanting to get either the S.E.R.T. or PCIII. Found an Indie in my town who's supposed to be great with the PC. I'm wanting to make sure I choose right between that and the S.E.R.T. Note: I'll be keeping the stock pipes for at least a while (I know... most of you hate 'em). I'm mainly looking into a tuner to address the lean/heat issue.
I can't find the SERT listed anywhere on the Harley site. Where can I get some info? Also, not to re-start the same old thread, but thoughts about SERT vs PC on this bike are welcome.
Thanks, Russ

When you update your computer, do you reprogram it (Windows 98 to Windows XP), or do you put on an external Hard Drive to do the same job (Switching between 98 and XP).....
I am partial to the SERT.... You have the ability to reprogram the actual ECM, by modifying different parameters (Fuel and Spark for either cylinder, enrichment, enleanment, hot engine management strategy)....
PCIII is a much less expensive alternative.... but it modifies the input and output signals of the ECM.... and is known to crap out or just die (not alot, but a few I have seen)...
It unfortunately boils down to how much $$$ you are willing to expend, and how good of a tuner that you have....

Thanks to all. Bay13, I'm familiar with search functions, but most of the dozens of related threads I've read on this forum have to do with modifications; I'm keeping my SG stock for at least a while. Also, have not found a single reference to where additional info may be found, where you purchase the program, etc.
As for what happens when I upgrade my computer; often I will re-program things to get better functionality out of the same hardware. But every couple of years (I'm an extreme power user, in the work that I do), I will "clear the decks" and start from scratch. Three reasons I question the SERT (and asked for these opinons):
1. EPA misguidedly believes (it seems) that motorcycles are the big bad guy when it comes to emissions. Well, more likely, they see us as a group that can be pushed around so it looks like they're doing something useful. No carmaker would allow their units to roll of the line so lean that they turned blue. I think it's entirely possible that, in the next couple years, annual emissions testing will come to my state. We've had it for cars for about 20 years, of course. With a stock bike, I can pull the PC for the test and have a reasonably-good running bike. Not sure how you "de-tune" a SERT setup.
2. Do not know of anyone in my area who claims/holds expertise with the SERT. Again, there's a highly-touted PC tuner in my neck of the woods. Do not want to spend the money for a SERT and have it turned over the the newest guy in the dealer's service stable.
3. Can't find out where to GET the damn things! That was my original motivation for posting. Where do you find out about/order/study/FIND a reference to SERT? Again, it's not on the HD site, at least I haven't found it.
Thanks again all,
RR
