Tornado warnng????
I have toured all the western states - time for a Coast to Coast run... Planning on leaving mid April - taking I-40 East to either Myrtle Beach or Savannah Ga = Then heading back though the Middle of the county towards The Black Hills of SD - then back to CA... Since this will be during the Tornado season - Is there anything I can do on my bike to let me know of any local weather warnings.... As you might have guessed - Never ridden or spent time in the Tornado states.... Just looking for some guidance here -
Lived for 52 years just outside of Wichita. Look up & ahead---you'll know by that alone if you want to ride into it or not. If you want to know what's forecast get a weather radio. Rode into a hailstorm one time--won't ever do that again.
noaa broadcasting is your best source for warnings. If you have a ultra you have several stations to chose from (depends on the area you are at at the time) It will most likely be noaa. Pay attention to what they say, they are very accurate.
Yep, just watch the skies (trust me, you will know it when you see it...no need to explain this one!) and listen to weatherband when you can. Best thing if you run up on one is to take cover immediately. Not just for the tornado but the high straightline winds that come along with it...not to mention the giant hail stones we get here, too.
When you fill up, go in and check the weather with the store clerk...truck stops usually have weather channels going during tornado weather too. RIDE ON

Just tune in and listen for a while. Local broadcast and special weather alerts will repeat themselves every few minutes.

The wife and I rode through a tornado warning area last summer on the bike. In WNY State no less. We were on an Interstate at the time and it started to hail. We got of the bike in a hurry. We didn't know it at the time but heard it on the TV when we got home.
Here in Oklahoma when they call for a tornado warning everyone grabs there camera and goes out on the back or front proch. But get you a NOAA weather radio they are real cheap and besides just watch the weather reports when you stop for the overnight stay. And by the way becareful on I-40 across Oklahoma and Arkansas the road sucks in Oklahoma and the last time I was in Arkansas it was not much better.
