Maintenance Cost
I recieved my April '09 copy of Cycle World yesterday and found an interesting wrap up article on their long term Kawi ZX14. What caught my eye was the cost of the maintenance and parts for this Japanese rocketship (0-60 in 2.5 sec. - I get enough tickets on my SG!). I've been under the impression that the other guys paid less for maintenance and repairs but I was wrong. This write up had the 7500 mi. service cost at $543 including plugs and $16/qt. Royal Purple syn. A new chain and sprockets at $253, new Michelin radials at $531, upgraded front calipers at $1200 each, upgraded wheels at $3916 and adjustable clutch and brake levers (hydraulic) at $535 apiece. Outside of the 7500 mi. service no labor costs were included. The bike cost $11,500 new and has a current value of $7855. Costs a lot of money to own and maintain a Harley and even more to own a two wheeled Japanese Ferrari.

I `can see the bit about the tires and the chain sprocket wearing out , especially if you are testing/timing those 0-60 MH times
.But really is it fair to suggest the upgrades as maintenance issues?
I added the BB kit as an upgrade , not that it was needed. But, I do consider my cams
(203 SE) as a maintenance item as when I bought the bike it had 40000 Kms on it and wanted to check the tensioners..another maintenance item.
Thanks for the info though, cause it is always good to hear I am not the only one spending money on my ride.
