Default Best bang for sound system buck ??

Hello Gang,

New to the forum. I have an '06 Ultra with the stock HK system.

I desperately want to upgrade the speakers and/or amp . Does this model have an amp on it, or just a higher powered head unit ??

I really want something that I can CRANK up , with very little distortion.

Price is not really a concern, but I'd like to stay under a dime.

Thanks in advance !

for the money imo i would use the arc audio systems. but you can mix and match. some have hogtunes others hawgwired and still others have meausered and went custom.

firecap501 has the arc setup pez the hogtunes

You'll get a ton of opinions and there's lots to read. Two plus years ago, I was where you are now. I read, read and read more and asked lots of questions. Back then I bought a Hawg Wired system and eventually sold the bike. I just bought an EG Classic and went right back and bought the very same Hawg Wired system and got a great deal on it IMHO.
Nuff said. Pics attached... look at the comparison between the stock speaker and Hawg Wired speaker.

Under a dime, here's what I did:

Head Unit: Alpine ida-x305
Amp: Arc Audio mini
Speakers: Boston Acoustics Pro50SE
Hand Controls: Pac module (from firecap501 / Wayne).

Set aside there is no sub...this system can rival many car systems.

How bad is the H/K '06 radio ?? I thought this was supposed to be a pretty decent unit ???

If the head unit is worthy, ( cuz I kinda like it), I'd rather put the cash in a bangin' amp and 4 speaker setup !!

I did the same as Brypink:

Head unit: Pioneer DEH-P4000ub (used on ebay $60 along with XM receiver)
Pioneer GEX-P920XM XM receiver (came with head unit)
Amp: ARC Audio KS mini (PM Firecap501 for pricing)
Speakers: ARC FD5025 for the upper and KS60?? 6.5" for the lower fairing
Hand Controls: PAC module from Firecap501 ($140)

price wise, anything specifically built for a HD is over priced......good example is hawg wired. dont get me wrong, its a great product, just over priced. i went with a alpine pdx 4.100. i got it way cheaper than the 300 watt hawg wired amp and really sounds clean. I also have a alpine deck and as of right no have 2 6x9's in the bags and 5.25 infinity kappa speakers in the dash and so far so good. I might change the infinity's later on and go with alpine r series coaxials, but not sure yet. Im happy with my setup right now.
Bang for the buck, I'd go with that mini arc amp, and just pick aftermarket 5.25 speakers.
