Hi Guys
I'm seriously considering trading my 2006 EGC in on a 2009 Ultra. I'm wondering if the new frame, motor mounts, etc are worth $12k and my 06 as a trade. I like the 06, except for the darn new motor mount. Bike shakes like hell now at an idle and the wife says she can't keep her feet on the floor boards because they vibrate so much when running.
So, looking for opinions from owners of the new 09s. Ride quality, vibrations, good stuff, bad stuff.
Thanks,
I traded my 03 Road King Classic, and my 05 Night Train for my 09 Ultra. I just got it home this weekend and only have 50 miles on it so far. I knew from sitting on the bike at the dealership that I was going to need new bars on it, I felt like I was leaning a little to far forward. I replaced the ones on both the other bikes as well. So I had the dealer install those with new grips while it was there.
Anyway, the Ultra has a MUCH better ride than my 03 RK. Right away I had great confidence leaning this bike way over in turns, plus it seems to have more power than the RK. I can't truely judge yet, as i'm still in the break in period. The stock seat seems comfortable for once. I'm happy with my choice, and i'm sure once I start putting the miles on it i'll find thing I love and things I need to change.
Try to get a demo ride and see if you feel instantly connected like I did.
I traded up from an '07 Road King to an '09 Ultra. I haven't regretted it for a moment and I feel the changes you mentioned in your original post are very significant. There was nothing wrong with the Road King, but I would do it again in a heart beat.
Traded my 07 ultra for the 09 and have put close to 500 miles on it so far and here are my thoughts.
1. No low speed wobble anymore
2. Better handling in the turns, corners like a smaller bike
3. My 07 was one of the very hot bikes, much less heat on the 09
5. Much better feel for the road through the frame.
6. Additional engine mount takes away the "paint shaker" effect during idle and while riding.
7. Wife feels more comfortable on the back of this bike.
8. Additional luggage capabilities. (5 more lbs per bag I think)
Negatives in my opinion
1. Needs longer bars if you are a taller rider
2. Seat is not my favorite but it is better.

I could not agree more - even the bars- I am not a taller rider, but I put on pullback bars and it is now perfect -
Went from an 07 EGC to 09 SG, could not be happier
Traded my 06 King for this 09 Ultra, no regrets now at all. Wife took only her second ride on it yesterday and could not stop talking about how smooth it was.
I just got back from a 300 mile run today, and I LOVE this bike. I've had her 5 months, and put on a little more than 5K so far. The most noticable difference to me is the way she handles in the corners and at higher speeds. Just rock solid.
Yep, if you can afford it right now, go ahead and get the '09. You won't regret it at all. Put 1200 miles on it the first week I had it and then winter happened. Had the SERT, A/C and monster ovals put on then and that really opened it up more. Perfect so far! They really are better!
Do it! Traded my 05 RKC for an 09 Ultra in Sept of last year and couldn't be happier. On the other hand, the 2010's will be out in five more months.....
