Default oil temp gauge ??

I installed the oil temp gauge a couple months ago and I am into my fairing again to put on some stuff to deaden the vibs from the speakers and I noticed that all the gauges except the temp gauge you cant see any of the light coming through the rear of the gauge housing. Should I have used the black plastic parts that were on the original air temp gauge to black it out.The black plastic thing was what held the original gauge in place. You can see a little of the light out around the gauge face and I am sure you will really be able to see in the dark going down the road. What might have you guys done?

Are you using the McEwen Gauge? Or the HD Gauge?

I had this hole on top of the McEwen gauge and noticed it before I closed up the fairing. I put black electrical tape over the top of the oil gauge inside the fairing. I cant see the hole anymore.

Try to use the black plastic mounting ring from the gauge you removed first....
I tried on my McEwen before using the tape but the ring won't fit on the McEwen gauge.

The black plastic piece will not work with the HD gauge. Been there, done that..

I used some black duct tape to seal the light opening from the rear. If you don't want to open it up again, get some black or gray foam (super small piece) and with a small pick or tiny screwdriver, push it into the voids from the front that you can see light coming out of. If done right, you will not see the foam when finished.

I did that at first, it worked fine. I had to pull the fairing off for an HID problem and did the tape fix at that time.
