Ha man, don't even worry about it. As soon as the weather improves for you, then you can ride it to your dealer and they will take care of everything. Good luck, ride safe and everything will be just fine.

Take care!!

Spongy ABS is not normal...Spongy Brakes in general are not normal! If they tighten up on the second pull...you need to have them looked at! Would this not be suspect in your car...of course! It's should be even more so on your scoot!

when the weather gets better...go have the dealer check it out! I love My ABS SG!

Ride safe, Mike

I drive an 08 w/ ABS and the first few times I rode I thought I was going over the bars when I pulled the front brakes. They should be that firm.

I would ride it a bit more, the brakes felt different from my previous bike, but every different bike I have ridden the brakes felt different. I don't feel that the brakes feel spongy though.

+1 on this; no sponginess on my Ultra. They are sensitive and respond to the slightest pressure whenever I squeeze the lever.

It isn't a spongyness, it's more when you apply the brake the lever compresses about half way. Release it and re-apply and the lever works "normally". Like there's air or something, "space" if you will... Are other 09's the same? It isn't spongy, it's just the initial squeeze.

yep..thats the same as mine. pumping it once or twice reduces its travel quite a bit. not exactly a safe situation. ochit......as soon as the weather breaks its back to a dealer.
has anyone resolved this issue??? it would be nice relaying info so i do not have to listen to the "its normal" response.

thanks in advance

ABS and normal brakes are exactly the same thing up until your wheel is just about to lock - end of story!

I have not ridden any other harleys so I can't compare, but I have 08 Ultra with ABS and the brakes are not spongy at all

Not normal, anytime you pump a hydraulic system to get better pressure, that means you are taking up space somewhere. Either your brake pistons are going back into the calipers to much, (usualy caused by warped rotors pushing the pads back) There is air in the system (Needs to compress on the first pull) or the master cylinder has a seal bad allowing a little fluid to get by it. The other possibility, although unlikely on a new bike is a brake line ballooning out.
Bring it back and if they tell you it's normal, get a statement from them in writing in case something serious happens. Seriously, without a statement and something tragic happens they can deny you ever had that problem.
