Arizona bike week
Seems to be getting better every year, though the bands have been better in the past.
We usually find cheap hotels around the Metro Center, and just ride back and forth to Scottsdale every day.
Rooms around the airport are sometimes cheaper, but a bit farther to ride.
There's always some great charity rides; Chesters and Arrowhead H-D are both good.
Be careful if you ride up Cave Creek Road--noise ordinances are strictly enforced.
There's plenty of vendors, factory test rides, and other attractions.
The only gripe I had last year was: NO covered parking. The Westworld parking tent stood empty while we all parked in the adjacent lot. That seemed dumb, considering the fact that we always got to park inside in the past. I always thought the inside parking was one of the best draws at AZ Bike Week. I guess everyone is cutting costs lately. Unsure about the arrangements this year.
Places to cruise to...
Prescott - historical western town, north on the 17
Wickenburgh - north on the 17 (Vulture Mine ghost town)
Tortilla Flats - east side out past Apache Junction (Goldfield ghost town)
If your into the Wyett Earp thing like me you gotta go to Tomombstone. Well worth the ride. Also drive down to Bisbee. South of Tombstone. Great desert riding in low traffic areas and pleanty of cactus along the way. Can't forget the absolute perfect weather this time of year. Sunny and blue sky all week.
Lots of vendors but I'am wondering what its going to be like this year with the slow economy. The main venu is at Westworld. We went the first day last year (Wednesday). No crowds and everything was new, more selections I think.
Lots of Harley dealers in the area - Phoenix/Mesa/Chandler/Apache Junction. The biggest dealers I have seen so far. Superstition HD in Apache jnct is 50-60,000 sq ft.
