I have the same slip ons as 05 Ultra, and just put on the V & H true dual header pipe. I tend to agree that the SEII's are almost too loud now? It's not so much the volume, but more the tone (for me)?
I made the mistake of the V&H duals and SE slip ons last year. They were so loud nobody wanted to ride behind me and my wife didn't want to ride on the bike either because her ears took a beating being on the back.
I know there are several different varieties of SE slip-ons, maybe the 65115-98B's are the "quiet" ones? I mean these are BARELY louder than the stock pipes... just barely. Looks like I'll probably be investing in a new set of slip-ons though, it will be easier to hang out at cruise-ins and sample all the touring bikes that roll in until I find one I like. Anybody in NE Ohio or western PA have the Wild Pigs or B&E slip-ons? I'd like to ride for a listen if you do!

The 98B's are what is on my bike right now, I can tell you they are much louder then what came on the bike. Now one thing that I do notice is when I wear my half helmet the bike is quieter than when I wear my full face helmet. When wearing the full face it sounds like someone is hammering on my helmet when I twist the wick. I know if I they were much louder my neighbors would be calling the cop and I'd be getting disturbing the peace ticket.
I've noticed the exact same thing. I wear a full-face on cold mornings and it will rattle in there to the point it's annoying. But 90% of the time I go hatless and all I can hear then is valves ticking. They sound great loaded up, just not at the idle-3,500 RPM's I live in. I think the full helmet thing has more to do with a lower pitch than volume.
What tips do you have? I have the Howitzers on mine. I'm almost at 700 miles on the 98B's now, maybe they just need more time to break in? I'm not even close to getting attention from the sound police right now. I'm also lucky that 3 of my neighbors all have bikes MUCH louder than mine, so they won't mind if I turn up the volume a bit!
I had the turn downs and then switched to the 8 3/4" slash downs, I thought I would give those a try and see if I got less dust thrown around which didn't change anything. I have 3k on my mufflers right now, I put 6k on the set that I had on my 05 Classic which had the turn down caps. I don't know how much louder they will become after 6k because I haven't kept a bike long enough to put more than 9k miles on it. I thought when I bought the 05 Classic I would keep it awhile, that was until I saw the changes on the 06 Ultra.
Funny thing this morning, over 700 miles on the SE's now and on the trip to work this morning, my head was rattling! This was with the full-face helmet of course. Lunch time I went w/o the helmet and it's like 2 different bikes. Rode with another EG at lunch and he had the Hooker tuned-flow muffs. They sounded good, anybody have any experience with them? I can see how people think the SE's are too loud if they wear a helmet. Otherwise I would say they're just right on the highway, but too quiet for my taste while putting around. Maybe I just need to add a short-distance bike to the stable???
