Default SE baffles

I installed my SE A/C, SERT, and SE slip-ons (65115-98B). The smoothness and performance was 100% improved [sm=smiley20.gif], but the volume was seriously disappointing [sm=smiley21.gif]. The sound/tone is great, but if the stock volume was 1, these are at 1 and 1/2. I'd like to get up to 3 or 4... nothing crazy, just loud enough to hear the thing running. My mistake was buying the bike at the peak of winter and listening to some of the used bikes they had inside the shop. The SE's sounded great in the shop, and knowing they were going to become extinct, I went ahead and ordered them. I had SE's on my 96 FXSTS and they were just about right. I've got about 600 miles on the slip-ons now, should I expect much more as they get broken in further?

I'd like to hang onto the pipes since I've already got 'em and like the looks. I know Big City Thunder makes replacement baffles, but I haven't been able to find anybody around here who has them to hear. I still want to be able to hear the tunes, but want the pipes loud enough to cover up the valvetrain noise. I know I could take the Sawzall to the SE baffles, but I'd rather do it right if there's something out there to swap out. Thanks in advance...

They do get louder with time. The baffels in the SE slip ons are what they are. You can't change them out. The only thing you can do is replace them with something else.

I actually listened to a set of Rineharts, but of course it was inside the shop and they sounded similar there. SE's were cheaper, so that's what I went for. Probably will be an expensive mistake, but I had the new bike buzz going on at the time!

Once cruise-in season gets into high gear around here, I'm gonna keep my ears on the lookout. I'd rather throw $100 at some baffles though instead of $500 on a totally new set! That might be my only real option though, I don't figure I'll find too many touring bikes w/ different baffles installed into SE's.

They do get louder, I have almost 3k on my 06 Ultra with the same mufflers and they are louder than when I 1st had them installed. I do know the bike is running and so does my wife. One thing that I did notice is the passenger gets nailed with most of the noise, especialy if they are wearing a helmet with a visor.

I have the SE II slant slip ons and loved them. I say loved cause after I did the true duel swap (do it!) they're just too loud now. I'm gonna give these a shot.pipes
Don't see how I can go wrong since he will give you your money back if you don't like them. Try telling V&H or Sampson you don't like their pipes.
He has a few other types but these peaked my interest.

One strange thing I noticed is when I do wear my helmet, all I hear is exhaust! Must be the frequency or vibration. I've heard the tips make a difference, I have the 8" straights on there now. Who knows, it might sound awesome from behind and I'm just missing out being up front!

I've thought about the true dual header setup, but probably not till next year. Is your motor still stock displacement and cams? More cubes = more volume. I don't have any plans (at least not now) of doing any internal mods. Maybe I'm getting old, but it's plenty quick for me right now w/ just the A/C and pipes!

Thanks for the link, hard to beat a satisfaction guarantee on pipes!

I have the same slip ons as 05 Ultra, and just put on the V & H true dual header pipe. I tend to agree that the SEII's are almost too loud now? It's not so much the volume, but more the tone (for me)? I would love to hear back on the sound of the B&E's after you get them Bro? And doomie - you need to do the true duals! On top of sound and "smoothness", the heat issues are pretty much gone too!
