In Townsend there is a great little place to eat. The Apple Barn. Breakfast is something to talk about.

Wheels Through Time has not moved yet and is still open. My best friend lives in Maggie Valley and I just asked him yesterday about the museum. He said it is still there and he sees visitors going in and out every day.

Here is an email I received from Wheeles through time on Feb. 19th, 2009.

Thanks for contacting us. We closed on December 1, 2008 and are currently looking at a lot of options for the museum's future. Haven't made any relocation or reopening plans yet, and are currently talking with a few folks at the state and federal level about the possibilities of staying in Maggie Valley. We'll be sure to keep our website updated as news develops. Please feel free to check back anytime.

Best Regards,

Matt

He must just be seeing friends and employees coming and going. He did say that there is a good bit of activity there every time he goes by. Hopefully they will reopen as the weather warms and the bikes start rolling in.

Default Beautiful area

We have hit the area severa l and have never stayed anywhere bad down there. Traffic is AT TIMES a little heavy around pigeon forge/Gatlinburg but it was managable. Somebody said about the road to their cabin being bad and yes the road up to our cabin was a climb and best kept for experianced riders due to gravel in areas but once you got there the view from our cabin was incredible and worth it. Gatlinburg is nice to walk around but it is tourist attraction. The Hard Rock Cafe was decent to eat at but a little expensive. I have also stayed in Cherokee and other areas but still like the Pigeon Forge area for some reason. If you havent hit the Blue Ridge before I think some its best riding is from the lower section down into Cherokee of which Mt Mitchell out look sits along this section being the highest point on the east coast. Everything you have listed to see is worth seeing and riding especially the dragon. Watch out for the crotch rockets and big rigs. I usually just moved over to the right and waived them by if they were riding too hard. If you haven't seen there site look at www.tailofthedragon.com.

One other thing worth seeing is the Smokey Mountain Knife works store/building. If you are into knives at all they have everything you could imagine.

FYI from Wheels through Time.

Thanks for contacting us. The museum closed its day to day operations on December 1st and has not set a re-opening date for the future. Currently, we are focusing on ramping up our virtual museum experience at www.WheelsThroughTime.com, and currently have over 280 shows online about the museum, its collection, and everything related. The site is 100% free and lets you visit Wheels Through Time everyday right from your own computer. We have our full gift shop online and virtual visitors are also able to purchase museum DVD's and raffle tickets on the 2009 WTT Raffle Bike -- a 1947 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead. Its a wonderful site and we're adding more videos and info all the time.

Cherokee, NC is really nice and close. Hit Coyote Joe's in Knoxville near the H-D shop.
