How involved is replacing that motor mount? I know i'm going to get a "buy a service manual" reply out of this, but was just wondering if its a pretty straight forward procedure?
My RKC developed a noise coming back from Daytona last Oct. It drove me nuts for a while, did it at idle a was worse just above idle and when I turned it off. Turned out to be the front primary sprocket nut had backed off a couple of turns.Just glad we cought it before it did any damage.

If yours is like mine ('07 RK), it's pretty easy. It helps to have 2 jacks. Motorcycle jack to hold the bike upright, and a bottle or floor jack to lift the motor up when you unbolt the mount. 3 bolts and you are done, although you might have to loosen the 2 bolts holding the upper mount bracket to the engine to get enough clearance to slide the mount out.
Did you check the upper motor mount above the horn? The one that has two bolts that go right into the top of the jugs? I've lost two bolts from that location, and experience the same sounds you're describing. If one of those bolts comes out, the bracket is banging on the cylinder constantly....
So for $65 is it worth it to stick with the stock HD unit, or spend a little more for an aftermarket one?
I have 36000 miles.........so I'm guessing it's time to change it out.
Does an oil cooler get in the way of changing the motor mount?

I have an 05 RK and a buddy of mine has an 03. We both had to replace our front mounts about 18 months ago. He bought one of the new poly mounts and took it off a week later. I got it, put it on mine then rode to HD to get a factory mount.
Excessive vibration on our bikes. The foot boards would put your feet and legs asleep. Yes they are stronger but they dampen less. I didn't care for them.

I got the Velva Ride one from Dennis Kirk. I think it was about $80-ish. I don't remember mine ever not shaking hard (and I mean it was rattling my teeth at stoplights), but it is definitely better now. Still shakes like a rubber mount, but I can at least relax my grip on the bars a little.
The one thing I noticed about the Velva Ride is the flange is quite a bit thicker than the OEM one. I had to get 1/2 inch longer bolts to attach it to the frame. The rubber isn't a polyurethane bushing type, but it is kind of translucent instead of the dense black rubber on the one I took off. Don't know how they compare, only know I like it better now. No additional vibes through floorboards or bars.

I actually took my bike to the dealer to get the mount changed, and add the 2" pullback bars. With my knee injury at Christmas I'm just not up to working down low on the bike just yet and putting extra stress on the leg, so I had the dealer do it. They did a great job and I'm very pleased with how it rides now. I think they had quoted me about $125 just to replace the motor mount, which I thought was worth it. The pullback bars, with new braided brake cable, bushings, and grips was another $350. Again, worth it for me since I can't do too much on my own right now, and the bike handles great. I've got around 35k on my ride, and this was likely the original motor mount -- sure looked like it when they took it out. I have very little shaking.

Go to the Road King riders forum on Delphi Forums. On their start page there is the procedure (with pictures) to change the mount on a Road King. I think it would be the same on all touring bikes.
Thanks ajay, I took a look and it doesn't seem to be too bad. When i get my bike back from the cam install i will have to inspect that a bit closer to see if i need to address it.
