So, I'm toolin' down the road as usual, and I come to a traffic light. Two lanes on my side. Left lane has 5 cars in it, right lane has 2. Plenty of room between them so I split the lane (as usual) and pull up to the crosswalk, sittin' there listening to some Lynryd Skynyrd on the CD.
There's this big CRASH behind and to my right, and the car on my right shoots out in the intersection and gets whacked by a car coming from the left. A 3rd car came up and smashed into the rear of car #2. She (car #3) never even hit her brakes.
I figure I was lucky car #3 hit straight. And if I'd been where most people would have been (i.e. in the lane with the fewest cars), I'd most likely be dead now.
I've been splitting lanes most of my 40+ years of riding, but this is the first time it was directly responsible for saving my behind.
Whew...(wipes sweat from forehead)...that was close. It didn't scare me...'cause I'm a tough guy (uh huh)...but somebody must have sh*t in my pants when I wasn't looking...
Never fails, no matter how much you pay attention, you are no match for someone on a cell phone, or not paying attention. That's my worst fear, getting hit from the rear with no place to go. Glad you are okay, thank your guardian angel.
WOW! That was a close one! Thanks for sharing, it's these kinds of posts that we all learn a little tid-bitfrom to make us better/wiser riders. Glad you escaped that!
Lucky, lucky. I went to So Cal a couple weeks back and was splittin' lanes and definitely see how it would help save bikers lives given your example. Sitting in traffic always scares the hell out of me for that reason.
Wow - lucky on that one. Don't you just hate when someone sneaks up and ***** in your pants when you aren't looking? Always happens to the tough guys too.
