So, over a course of time at this site, I have learned quite a bit here, so please do not flame me too bad for what I am about to ask - I have an 02 Ultra - around 40-45 mph, I hear what sounds like ball bearings rolling around - Last time I heard this, I had a dime bouncing around in my lower fairing - Now, I have no idea - I have pulled the clam shell fairing off and touched and tighten ever part I can find in and around the dash - I have replaced the seal on the winshield - I have pulled the seat, and touched every nut and bolt - I have, what I believe is to have gone over this bike with a fine tooth comb in sections - It is driving me crazy - I am sure it is something real simple but I am at a loss -
Any ideas??? Thanks
blue painters tape! tape off all seams ALL seams remember air can get everywhere. I had noises on my road king that haunted me for months. my buds were relentless because they could hear it too. tape everything at first. that will help ypu isolate the problem.
If people ask about the tape just tell them it's the 2011 HD and it's top secret.
Thanks - I like a good laugh first thing - You guys crack me up -
Have not changed octane - it is not a pinging but more like a rattle or like I said, ball bearings rolling around -
I like the idea of louder pipes but it is like having a squeek - no matter how loud things are around you, you can still hear that little squeek -
Seeing dead people happens all day - every now and then voices in my head - Is that a bad thing?
Now, the blue painters tape is good, since I have quite a bit of that in my garage - I was thinking more along the lines of bright orange safety tape that way cages can see me and I am fixing the problem -

It still could be pinging. When I had engine work done to my Ultra, the canned break-in map I was using before I could get it dyno tuned had this "pebbles tumbling in the exhuast sound"...otherwise known as pinging.
+1 on the pinging! Doesn't have to be a change in Octane...maybe something is different about the gas. do you use the same station? Maybe you're not getting the spark you think you're getting...time to do some testing
