Well i guess thats a personal choice,if it where up to me i would outlaw crome, but thats just me.Lets just clear up some myths about powder coating, first off a properly mixed base clear paint job is way more scratch resistant than a hi-gloss powder and if you do scratch a base clear paint job it can at least be polished out.Powder also has a clear coat but it will never come out as smooth as paint will and its almost impossible to polish.Semi gloss powder or any kind of textured powder is pretty durable, but low gloss not so much.I would suggest ceramic coating if you want to go black because ceramic coating has very good low-semi and hi gloss black and its also 10 times stronger than either paint or powder.Ceramic coating costs about $20 a running foot where powder costs around $1.40 a sq foot but keep in mind thats canadian prices. So if it was my bike i would go with ceramic coating,it may cosy a little more but it will last forever and lets face it if money where that big of a deal you would have bought a honda.

leohd - Thanks, you have one of my all time favorite bikes on this site. Everytime I see it I've gotta stare a while.

chevsrock - I don't know where you got your info about powder coating but your facts are way off. Powder coat can not only be polished, but it can be wet sanded and buffed out just like a base coat clear coat paint job with the same results. This gas tank is powder coated and was wet sanded and buffed. Oh, and it was done in about 45 minutes. Maybe it's just me but I think it looks just as good as any paint job out there.

Your facts are also off about powder coatings durability. If you are basing your info off of past experiences from a previous powder coater maybe you should look around for a better one.

That is true, some powders do hold up better than others,my shop does both but if a part can be ceramic coated i always suggest to go that way

over powder coating just because it is more durable.

Powdercoater-first off i must start off by saying i guess i should not have said powder coating was impossible to polish but i find paint a little more forgiving than powder as long as you don`t burn through the clear. As far as where i get my info, well i have ran my own 70,000sqf coating shop for the past 9 years,we do wet, powder and ceramic coating.Me personally have been doing all three for 15 years. My dad left me the shop when he died 9 years ago, around 40% of my buisness is hotrod and motorcycle parts. Most of the people who want there tins coated want them painted, mostly because of the larger color selection. All i was tring to do was give my opinion, and is`nt that what a forum is all about.I have read some of your opinions and for the most part agree with what you have said, you seem to know what your talking about but its always nice to hear more than one persons opinion,by the way good job on that tank looks good.

Thanks for all the advice guys, it's been duely noted! I never thought about gunmetal grey but I definitely love the idea! I now have some more options to go with so I'll use all the new ideas in making any decisions! Maybe once I pick it up next week I'll try to get some new pics on here and try that photoshop tip as well! Thanks again guys!!!
