I allways remove my calibers It only takes about 20 seconds more and you can inspect them and it's easier putting the pads in.

On my 02, I took the front calipers off to clean them every 1000 miles or so because my lever would get squishy as they got dirty. I did not replace the pads, just clean the calipers. That changed once I replace the MOCO pads with Lyndall pads. I only had to clean them every 5000 miles then. I did not pull off the rear caliper because that required removing the rear tire. But I did manage to clean the caliper with brake cleaner, it was just a lot more hassle. Probably would have been easier to take off the tire, but I didn't have a jack at the time. I now have an 09 and I think I can remove the rear caliper without removing the wheel. I will find out.

I will say that this is one of the few areas the service manual does a pretty good job. And, the Lyndall Brakes web site has some information with pictures as well.

most problems with brakes are due to lack of cleaning and maintenance of the calipers. lyndall pads are an awesome upgrade.. get them at www.motorcyclemetal.com howard can help you with any problems or questions he's a great guy and its a great company. he talked me through my brake job right over the phone....yeah he's that good !

When you are running an organic pad they do not wear the rotors much and contain no metal to react. I still take some brake clean with the hose thing and spray it down in the brake pistons. Still pull your pads every 5K, grease them up and physically check your calipers and all other stuff like pins and all. Follow the instructions if you like. Just remember a $10 can of brake grease will last longer than you will (unless you are into some kinky $hit) so what do you got to loose? Wife says take out the garbage while you are in your man space and you got the perfect answer: "I'm working on our brakes to keep you safe". WTF, maybe it will work?

changed my 06 EGC to the gold and love them. the oem pads had 29,000 miles and still had about 1\3 left. I droped the back tire and removed both calipers from the front . easy job but I had added some fluid a wile back, so I just opened the bleeder and and let some fluid go. I did not remove the res cover this time. once all the air is out, the lever feels nice and firm.
