Thats great!! We're happy for ya!
Last time I checked, this was'nt a motorcycle racing forum and these touring bikes are not made for that type of riding.
I've been riding Harleys for almost 40 years and have never needed ABS brakes, knock on wood. But when I bought my 08, I got it with ABS. Why, because it was available. Same reason that I pay for health insurance. Havnt needed that yet either but law of averages says I will eventually and damn sure want it there when I need it.

From the "mental giants" we're impressed. Maybe one day we can grow up to be just like you!

I don't get on a roll for nothing. But your name must speak volumes. Just because a person has ABS or chooses ABS it doesn't mean they belong in a cage. It means they've made a responsible decision in this day and age of ever increasing inexperienced drivers. Every rider should always work to increase their riders experience either through riding clubs or courses. But for you to say what you said...you sir...are an idiot! We're all entitled to our opinions, and most of them stink...but yours stinks mre than the average Horses A$$!

Please take your 40 years of riding experience and add positively to this forum! I can hardly believe after your years of racing you never had a crash.

ABS has it's place for Experienced and Inexperienced riders. It's gaining a foothold as well as good motorcycle mentoring and riders courses. Be a part of the solution "crash" not part of the diehards that don't see a good change on the horizon!

Ride Safer, Mike

I have the same thing happen on an washboard type surface ABS on off. I have wondered if it increased my stopping length in that situation? Then I had an emergency (classic left turn in front of me) braking situation and ABS did it's job when I lost traction with the rear tire, matter of fact it did very well. I'm still sold on it for now.

When I used a threshold braking riding my imports I'm not sure how I would feel about ABS, I'm not riding this bike nearly has hard, yet.

ABS will only help in preventing a skid. Nothing more. Hitting a slick surface with ABS will increase stopping distance some as the wheel is starting and stopping about 30 (?) times a second. This is the same with cages (cars). You have to rethink or an re-learn proper application of the brakes in order to compensate for the use of ABS. It is a known fact that ABS increases stopping distances in most instances. It will not work as well on icy or slippery surfaces. It works best on rain slicked surfaces to prevent hydroplaning and loss of traction.

Hope this helps.... http://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-p...lock-brake.htm
