Default Gauge Replacement

Guys, I am wanting to replace my "Black" 03 gauges with the later model "Silver" face gauges, All of the gauges from HD say from 95-03 and from 04-08, Do nay of you know what I will ahve to do to make this work? There are several sets on E-bay for reasonable prices. Thanks in advance for your help, I get MORE info from this forum than I can get from 10 dealers!!!!

Default Gauges

The oil, volt, fuel, and air will work the tach and spedo are not interchangable. I tried to put 06 silver faced from street glide on 03 ultra and will not work. you have to use the silver faced for 03 part#74457-00 spedo and tach. The new gauges have serial data input that the 03 does not, The ecm runs thru the spedo and 07 and up have the 6th gear and newer ones have abs light.

FYI, Earlier model gauges will not work on the 08 or 09 models either since HD went to the TBW system.

And the 6 gallon, as opposed to the 5 gallon tank size comes into play with the fuel gauge. Go ahead, ask me how I know. *LOL*

THose are all correct statements, i have a set of 07 black face gauges i can not use now i need to find some black faced 04 and older gauges to work on my bike. I tried to use the newer gauges but they dont work on the older bikes because they have a little Brain in them....but that is why we try these things and that is also why we post here so we dont make the same mistakes somebody else has done.
