Its seems with the 06 bikes some have had no problems with mods at all. My 05 RK has willd pig slip ons only for now and it runs fine.

I don't think I made myself clear enough. My question is can I add slip-ons only to a stock'06 Ultra or do I have to include a fuel management system with it in order for it to run properly? Thanks
TMI???

I think Loch gave you a clear answer.
Add slip-ons, no A/F required.
Enjoy your Ultra.

I just put the B&E true duels and the super flow mufflers (same as fullsac) the sound is great. . I didn’t have to remap at all. The bike runs fine with no backfire or popping. 2006 RKC

I have the B&E Superflows on the way for my SG. I'm going to try them without remapping and see what happens. I'll post the results.

Hey Smitty,

This topic always raises a lot of questions for sure.

A little context. The '06 bikes are set up to run extremely lean from the factory due to EPA mandates. Too lean in my opinion. Anyway, it's a fine balancing act with stock exhaust/air cleaner/FI or Carb combo. When you change the equation with only one component it's possible the bike could run even leaner getting you closer to an already sharp edge.

Can you do only slipons without damage? Probably, but check your plugs once in awhile and keep an eye on your right muffler for color changes the first few hundred miles.

For my money, I'd spend the extra bucks for a Stage I kit and Fuel management system or chip burn. You will get better performance than stock and have the peace of mind knowing everything is working together AND the bike will run richer and cooler.

If you are going with Vance & Hines and don't intend to do future upgrades like cams, big-bore kit, etc., the V&H Fuelpak is easy to install and works great.

Yes the touring models have catalytic converters in the exhaust. But the California bikes have had these for YEARS already. A catalytic converter burns unspent fuel it doesn’t lean the engine down. How much leaner can my ’06 Ultra be if I’m getting 39 mpg with it?

If I had to guess I would say the engineers at Harley have the engines set up with the appropriate air to fuel ratio. They aren’t going to build 300,000 bikes every year and risk them all blowing engines.

While we are on this topic I would like to ask how many of you have know a Harley engine to melt a piston? I keep hearing about all the damage that can be done but I have yet to hear of an engine going down. I’ve read plenty of posts from guys who did exhaust and air filter and then several thousand miles later figuring out they need to get a fuel management device to get rid of there decal popping. Why didn’t these guys have problems?

I’m also into snowmobiling here in Minnesota and I’m running a 2-stroke engine in that. I haven’t had an engine melt down yet but have seen MANY. If you do even the smallest modification on a 2-stroke snowmobile and don’t compensate for it they burn down RIGHT NOW. I’m new to Harleys but I find it interesting how often I hear about lean conditions but never hear of anyone rebuilding an engine because of it.

What he said.... Seriously if no major mods are planned then this is the easiest way to go. Just an opinion
