Wow, couldn't believe how dumb-easy it was to install these mufflers on my 2009 RKC! I think it took me longer to unpack the new mufflers than it did to take the factory units off and mount the new ones.
After installing a previous set of V&H mufflers on my previous 1200 Custom Sportster, I was prepared to battle the dreaded V&H heat shields again. Imagine my surprise to find that these don't have the external shields and clamping system - so much better.
I am going to tighten everything up tomorrow afternoon and give the new additions a good cleaning to remove any fingerprints or other soiling before they get heated up (hence why I didn't clean them tonight...want some good sunlight!).
I'll report back tomorrow evening on the sound - can't wait!!!
Nice pick up. I've got them on my Ultra. Right side was a piece of cake, maybe 5 minutes of work. Left side took over an hour, had a lot of problems getting old one off and new one on. Love the sound of mine. Let us know what you think when you get it out on the road. They really come to life when you give it some major throttle.
Fortunately, my ride only has 450 miles on it, so the existing mufflers came off with no issues whatsoever. My Sportster had even less miles on it, but the stock units were definitely more difficult to get off, but nothing that a little WD-40 didn't solve!
I am really looking forward to hearing it, the stock exhaust was pretty anemic - my wife said she couldn't even hear me pulling in the garage with the new scoot. Hell, I gotta give the mailman and lady plenty of notice to get their clothes on when I enter the subdivision!
i was laughing my a$$ off from the first post. I just installed the V&H basics on my 09 RK, had about 1000 miles on it before the change. so easy. took all of maybe 15 minutes to do and i love the sound.
I've always like V&H chrome quality and how they hold up. Probably go same route and later down road go with Power Duals or Dresser Duals using the same slips. With stock intake you don't have to do a flash etc. with V&H slips do you?
Tightened it all up, cleaned the pipes and took her for a quick spin (it's rather cold here today).
Wow! Superb sound, EXACTLY what I was looking for. What a serious LOW rumble, and I like the classic looks of these compared to the larger and more expensive monster ovals made by V&H.
It sounds like a Harley now...joy oh joy!!!
I'm so glad I bought these instead of something else, can't wait to get them broken in good.
