I have my 2009 Ultra reg/insured in Florida. I am paying for 100/300 100 property with a 500 deductable $393 a year. After going thru my paperwork I see that I am NOT covered for under/ or no insurance, which means if I hit a wall or someone with insurance.....no problem, but if someone with no or little insurance hits me......SOL....now I do have med insurance so the way I feel about it would be the bike loss and no "pain and suffering" but the doctor/ hospital bill would be paid ?? Right or wrong ???
If I get the uninsured/ under insured coverage for 100/300 it would be $1500.....dropping to 50/100 it would be $1275 All with GEICO, all prices are for the year.
What coverage are most Florida riders using ?? Has anyone had an accident w/o the extra un/under coverage....how did you make out ??
Last and most important.....What is the lowest price company writing in Florida that offers GOOD service/ coverage. I do not want to go just on price and be sorry later.
I have the 100/300 K limits on mine without the additional coverages and have it through Foremost Insurance. Gives me coverage for additonal bike parts and roadside assistance with trip interuption coverage. They are the lowest I have found for my circumstances. I had Progressive before and Foremost beat them. You can call HD and they will compare 3-4 companies and give you the best price.
I have Geico insurance and live in North Florida.
Look at at Geico Form CG-(-FL (03-02) Titled:
Uninsured Motorist Coverage (UM),Includes Underinsured Motorist Coverage
To answer your first question, the answer is NO. You are not covered. Your "other" medical insurance would cover this.
This is the text quoted on the form:
"UM coverage provides provides payment for certain benefits for damages (bodily injury or death) caused by owners or operators of uninsured motor vehicles.
Such payments may include payments for certain medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering, and are subject to limitations and conditions contained in the policy.
(For purpose of this coverage, an uninsured motor vehicle may include a motor vehicle which has Bodily Injury limits less than your damages).
I have never had a claim so I could not answer your other question.
This is just my interpretation... I would call 1-800-442-9253 and have them confirm this.
Florida is a No-Fault state. Your insurance will pay for your damages no matter whose fault the accident was. As far as I know no insurance companies in Florida will sell a motorcycle policy with Personnel injury protection.
I pay $693.87 a year. With Markel on my 09 Street Glide.
That includes 25000/50000 Body Injury Liability,
20000 Property Damage,
25000/50000 UM/ UIM Body Injury
Comprehensive -250 with 3k in extras
Collision -250 with 3k in extras
I might call & see how much to raise coverage? Never had a claim so don't know if they are any good? If anyone using Markel has had to make a claim please respond as to how they helped?
