I'm planning on ordering an 8" clearview recurve windshield today. Im about 6' tall and according to their measuring methods 8" should have me looking over the windshield.
My question is whether I should get it in smoke or dark smoke. The dark smoke would probably look better but Im concerned about the visibility in the dark, as Im not sure how dark the dark smoke is. Does anyone have the dark smoke, and if so, how dark is it?
I got a smoked one for my bike, it looks great and I'm glad I didn't get it any darker.
You look over most of the time but there are times you have to look through it and when you are wearing sunglasses and looking through a tinted windshield it gets real dark.
I have a 10" dark windshield from Fastaire that I love. It presents no problems at night, as I look over it. I have a 14" Clearview w/recurve for the winter. I have to tell you the difference in windage is minimal.
I am 6' so I think your safe with your 8" being dark.....JMHO....
I have the 8" in smoke and wouldn't want it any darker although I really don't look through it. Looks great.
Incidentally, the degree of tint probably won't matter for you - I'm 5' 10" or so and I look way over my shield (see sig pic). If the SG has a similar seating position as the Ultra, at 6' you will find it is well below your eyesight so I suspect the degree of tint will be more a matter of esthetics.
I have the Clearview 8" dark smoke on my 09 Ultra. I'm also 6' tall and look well over the shield, so the degree of tint is really no factor for me, and I suspect it won't be for you either.
I'm also 6' and have the 9.5" Smoke and look over it. Also had a 12" smoke but was not comfortable with it at night time, had to sit up too straight to see over it.
I took a quick ride with some stuff taped to my windshield to check the height, and I think I will be looking over the windsheild enough that having a dark tint should be fine. So... I just placed my order for a 8" in dark smoke.
