I have an 08 Ultra Classic and about 6 months ago I notice that was a little oil on the left side of the forks. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced the seal, fine it has been gone since, until yesterday I went out for a ride after about 3 week of not riding, and I notice some oil on the left side of the forks again.....so I call the service guy that I deal with and I told him that the fork seem to be leaking again so he ask me what color is the oil and I said a very light brown. He said that the fork oil is a candy apple red color, so I looked at the housing area around the goose neck where there is a plate and a grease fitting I saw some brown grease, so I thought well maybe since I keep my bike in my shed and it's been on the jiffy stand for about 3 weeks maybe the grease is just melting a little and it dripps on to the left side since it leans on that side. It's not a lot but enough to notice. So I stopped by the dealer and the service guy came out and said it is not fork oil, and really didn't know where it is coming form so he wiped it down real good and said if it come back to bring it back in. When I got back home I notice little bite back on the fork, so I wipe it down real good...I'll be riding in the next few days to see if it comes back. Does anyone have any ideal what it is and where it could be coming from??? Thanks on any feed back!!
Did yours look like this? (red oval below)
I have a 2008, only had 4900 miles when I bought it last Fall....have put on 1500 or so this year, and this has happened the past 2 rides this past Sat and Sun, never occurred before that. On Saturday, there was a single 'drip' at the location the red arrow is pointing in the picture. This is only on the left side of the bike, right side is fine.
I fear its the fork seal but there is no oil running down the fork anywhere, its just on the chrome fork tin as in the pic. Wondering (hoping) its not a seal.
I have greased the neck this year, and its been kinda cold till this past weekend (in MN) so wondering if somehow melted neck bearing grease is creeping over there? what path would it take I wonder?
