Having the gear drive takes the disintigrating tensioner shoes away, no worries and nothing to maintain there. keeps things nice and accurately lined up.
I have the 26G's and S&S gear drive setup, absolutely worth it.
just wondering, getting ready to put gear drive and the 26 on my 07 ultra, will it need to be redynoed? have rinehart trues, se A/C, SERT already.
Why go gears on your '07 ? The '07 doesn't have tensioner issues. All you need is to change the bearings and put in the cam. Save your money for something useful.
sorry not member of the touring group, but I have been reading every thread about cams I can. He has an 07, I do not think the tensioners are a problem.

I agree completely and would add that gears MIGHT be a problem for him depending on his crank run-out. I'd stick with the late model tensioners or, at the very least, be reasonably confident that my run-out was next to nil.
The only reason going with the gear drive is I do not want to worry about the wear and plastic ending up in the motor. I was lucky with the 00 FLHTC i had traded it with 100K and never touched the shoes. I plan on keeping this one a little longer. And as far as retuning I will check the plugs after about 50 plus miles and go from there. The Mech that is doing the work doesn't think I should have to due to the 26 is a bolt in cam without any other engine work. I just hate having to spend another 300. to retune. But if I have to I will.

You might want to rethink this. All the top builders agree that the current, updated chain-drive system is much improved over the older one and it's no longer necessary to spend (waste?) money on converting a newer bike to gear drive. Also, if you don't check for excessive crank runout on a '07+ motor before adding gear drive, you risk grenading your motor.
Regarding the retune, tell your mechanic he doesn't know what in hell he's talking about. A "bolt-in" cam ONLY means you can install it without having to change the valve springs or do head work. You just "bolt it in." It has ZERO to do with whether your motor will need retuning. Fact is, it WILL require tuning and any cam that didn't change things enough to require retuning wouldn't be worth installing.

Sorry I worded it wrong and yes I probably will have to remap it and the tuner I have already talked to, cause hopefully he won't charge for the full dyno run again being he already has my setup in his computer.
