Not really. About 2-3 a year, and that's usually because they are stripped out on an older bike and the person tried to tighten it up and made it worse. How soon you need one?

Save it. You can flip it around and have a spare when your toe shifter falls off.

Me, I just cant get used to the heel shifter. Gave it a good try on the new 09 but old dogs, new tricks, you know!

Seeing that I have the Soos 1 inch floorboard extentions, I find that the stock toe shifter is too far inboard. So I use the kuryakyn spacer that moves the toe shifter to the outboard position so now all is right with the world.
