wasn't too bad to install, and really are a hell of an improvement over the stock ones. look and work great. too bad that HD has to make an extra buck, rather than just installing them as standard on the bikes.
Structurally the stock hinges are bullet proof. They're on hundreds of thousands of bikes with millions of miles collectively, and you don't hear of any hinge failures these days.
Visually though - it's got to be one of the ugliest pieces Harley puts on a their bikes!
When I got my Ultra I couldn't believe it was on a $23,000 motorcycle.
Eventually I got used to it because there weren't any alternatives.
I now have the new ones on my bike and couldn't be happier.
BIIIIIG difference! And the bike seems quite a bit quicker now too!!!
I thought I was the only one who noticed the increased performance. Granted I haven't dynoed my bike yet to see just how much TQ and HP I picked up with the new hinges, but by the seat of the pants method I can tell you it's significant!
I was pretty much sold on the hinges with the great looks, but now...to find out they make the bike quicker, well I'm headed to dealer for my newest performance mod. LoL
I was like alot of others, I never really paid attention to the stock hinges. The new style looks alot better, HD once again figured out to get more of our money.
The new hinges look dramatically better. I never gave the old ones a second look until I had the opportunity to compare them to the new ones.
Also, the point about being able to undo the old hinges with nothing more than two torx drivers makes the new ones a home run. For about $50 it's one of the cheapest mods you'll make and you get good looks and security too.
The issue regarding '06 has to be fiberglass vs ABS. The chopped pacs are still fiberglass, I believe, which seems to support this theory. Between drilling out the holes and the fact that one set of rivets is replaced by a plate that serves as a sort of clamp, I believe that fiberglass might be a bit brittle.
Great! I did not even know I had ugly hinges on my Ultra untill I saw this post. I went and looked at them. Man those things are ugly. Looks like I will have to go buy the kit. This forum costs me more money!!
