This has been discussed a lot here and in other areas on this site. Yes, they are getting rid of a few different models, and rumor has it they are coming out with some new bikes.

And so it begins. Every year the rumors start about this time......and I did hear that the Rocker is going bye-bye....but the RoadGlide will hopefully be a part of the FL line up for a long time to come.

Talked to my dealer tonight and they said the Road Glide was history in its present form. Said they won't know what will be new till the dealers meeting so thats the word everyone else is hearing so it must be true.

They need to make changes of some kind so they'll have something new to talk about. So they'll delete some stuff and add some stuff. They'll add some colors, delete some colors, and add some do-dads. They might come up with some combo attraction like the Ultra Sport Road Nightster Classic Glide King.

What they won't do IMHO, is anything that requires any major re-tooling or major expense. Even if they had it planned, now is not the time. After all of the major changes in the 09 Touring line I don't expect anything big for a while.

The RG is going away and so is the plain jane Rocker, not the chrome version, the Dyna Low Rider, Electra Glide Standard and one of the Sportsters. There will probably be some new models and the colors that have been a round for 2 years will go away. The only color that always stays is Vivid Black.

Harley-Davidson is taking the commonsense approach here. They need to cut production to adjust for the shrinking market and they're accomplishing this by first cutting those models with the lowest sales figures.

Sometimes companies purposely "leak" changes so they can gauge public sentiment on thier plans. I think this is the case here.

There is no doubt from a business perspective that they have too many models to chose from and they know it. They need to focus on the best sellers with the highest margins and retire the rest.

I think this is the case. Look how secretive they were on the cross bones an xr1200, not a peep until they decided to release the product.

I would like to see HD get through this stronger. Good times for all will be back soon.
