hey all Iam going to Maine this year June 27th thru July 4th can anyone reconmend reasonable places to stay in Maine. This is the link as to the route we are taking. thanks http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.c...r/share/182251
I can't recommend any specific place to stay. You will be in Maine at a very busy time of the year and there are many places to stay. Maine is a very popular tourist state for the coast and its inland attractions. It is a great state for touring on a scoot. We head up there quite often. You shouldn't have much of a problem finding accomodations in a pinch.
The coastal roads are awesome from Maine down into New Hampshire. we never get tired of riding them. You should have a great time over here.
Michael,
I see buy your plan you will be at the end in York Beach. Not a bad place but loaded with tourests from NH and Mass. Get on the main turnpike Rt 95 and head up towards Portland, then take old US 1 North toward Bar Harbor. Tons of places to stay, and the views are great. Rt 1 is the coast road. WARNING: When you get to Freeport have the wife talking and talking cause when she sees the LL Bean stores it will cost you!! If you get to Bar Harbor ride up Mount Cadillic. 1800 ft. Now I know people and my self included that hve ridden up higher but remember you are only about a mile from the ocean. It seems so much higher as other mountains that are much high has no perspective cause you cant see the sea level.
Good luck!
If you find your way to Old Orchard Beach, there's about a million hotels along there. It's full of tourists. Before you hang a right onto the road that runs along the beach, there's a huge seafood place that looks like a converted shopping mall on the left. It's one giant place. Believe it or not, the food there is quite good. However, the name escapes me.
Have lived in southern Maine my whole 43 years, can probably help you out with info. Wicked busy time of year here, but at least it should be above freezing by then. Gotta swing in to Bentleys Saloon on your way through, great biker bar. I live about 1 mile from it in Arundel which is about 10 miles up rte.1 from York. Drop me a private message will help as much as I can.
We go to York every year as well. It can be pretty pricey that time of year. There is the Anchorage inn on Long sands. Do you want to stay right on the beach or away? obviously the further away you go the cheaper.
I hear York is really busy this time of year, Maybe you should contact Tony B. from the chapter and get some info from him. They were up there last year and moved around up and down the coast.
