That may have been true back in the day, but not any longer. No flush or anything necessary these days. Back in the day something with the formulation of the synth. oil affected seals, so when you went back to dino oil it would cause leaks...no longer though.
There are a few threads on this topic BTW, check the OIL forum
yeah i found out this past weekend, that i was about a quart low for some reason. so the only thing i had at that time was dino. so i added about 3/4 of a quart into my amsoil.
well i was told DONT EVER MIX. so that evening did a oil change back to amsoil.
but back to the original issue. glad to hear, i guess. that everyone else hears the ticking to.
Bottom line is that they are aluminum, air cooled motors. You are bound to hear some noise. Mine sounds like it is about to deliver a bale of hay, but it has sounded like that for 45000 miles with no issues.
BTW, Amsoil states that you CAN mix it with other types of oil, you will just lose the effectiveness of the extended drain interval.
I have to agree on the dino oil. I replaced Amsoil 20W 50 with the HD360 and feel the bike runs quieter. I thought the Amsoil was better in metric bikes I've owned but with my 08 EGS I like the dino oil better. I change my oil more often than required anyway so change intervals are not an issue for me with the dino.
Well, CRAP! I thought I had figured out what oil (AMZOIL) I was going use after my first service until I read this. If it's making more noise, it's only logical that it's wearing faster, right? How can a certain type of oil be "better" and also make all the ticking sounds louder? None of this sheet makes any sense!!!!!
Sounds on my RK that I had on my metric:
1. ticking from cylinder heads
2. sounds like sewing machine
3. occasional "jetsons" chirping sound from exhaust
Figure if it starts making loud, metal to metal noises, burnt rubber or visible smoke, something's up.
Was that an old Tom Petty song at the beginning someone says "it just the normal noises in here"?
