How does moving the floorboards out provide more leg room? Wouldn't they need to move forward, not out?

I just got my Harley Goodies floorboard extensions. I started the installation on the ride side first and man those bolts were tight. Especially when all I had was short Allen Wrench. I'm going to buy an Allen wrench socket before I tackle the left side.

I have Soos 1" and they really made a difference in a relaxed posture for my knees. Prior to the install I was always gripping the tank with my knees to keep my feet from sliding off the outside of the boards. They rub when really laying it over but that's why the boards are hinged.

As an aside, I found at sustained speeds over 75, the wind was trying to blow my knees "out" away from the tank and I had to hold pressure on them slightly to keep my knees from forcing my feet off the boards. Adding hard lowers made a world of difference in comfort at high speeds.

I got the harley goodies version, does make a real difference, lets you use the entire floorboard, not just the outer edge.

Got the 1" Soos extenders front and back. The boards won't drag on my bike, the pipe hits first on the right, the stand hits first on the left. Now that I have a Wheeldock, that hits first on both sides.
