Default Garage door opener inside fairing

quick question: for those of you that have put an extra garage door open inside your fairing and used the trip odometer reset switch. Are the wires long enough that come with the switch or do you have to extend them??? Going to pull the outer fairing in the am but thought I would check here first.

Thanks,

Ben

The wires that come with the button were not long enough for me. I used the crimp style connector with the heat shrinkable tubing on the ends and extended the wire. Then I zip tied and electrical taped my opener to one of the brackets inside my fairing.

I used the reset button to activate the door opener but put the small door opener up under the switch panel in front with double faced tape and drill hole for the switch just under the other switches. This way it will be easier to replace the battery in the door opener.

I took the battery out and wired my remote to my hi beam switch. No battery to replace and I don't have to let go of the grip.

Thanks for the quick responses. I will get some extra wire and shrink tubing in the am.

If it's a common door opener that runs off the flat batteries that look like a quarter, then you've got a good couple of years before you have to change it.

That's a good idea of putting it under the switch cap though.

I mounted mine inside next to the cig lighter and used the Aux switch.

I located the opener in my fairing also but since I have no radio I de-pinned the right hand audio control button to activate my door without haveing to remove my hands from the grips. Here is a link to my step by step....

Wait until you need to replace the garage door opener the new ones do not use 12v remotes. They use 3v I think it is.

I just mounted mine under the side cover on my 04 EGC and used 3M 2-sided tape to hold it. I also put a brand new battery in it as well before doing so. I mounted the button up close to the side and top and unless you really look for it, you never see it. I put it on my right side. I only have the small key chain remote though. Popping cover off to get to is nothing.

Link doesn't work.
I'm intersted in seeing your write-up. I tried to get mine to trigger from the left hand CB controls, but couldn't figure it out.
