07 SG - Cracked Y Pipe
2007 FLHX, 103 BB w/ SE255 Cams, Stock Exh, Supertrapp SE Mufflers, PCIII , 4500 ft elev - Dyno Tuned by me in Nov 08.
Bike had been running very well until about 3 weeks ago when I noticed the Oil Temps were climbing towards the 260 range and the exhaust has a slight backfire that wasnt there before. This bike has always ran a little hot despite a flat 13.9 AFR curve. I had the chance to put it on my former shops dyno & play with it on Sat thinking that with Summer coming, Id tweek the settings a little richer. Despite several runs, nothing unusual was showing up on the screen. I asked the mechanic to run the dyno while I stood close, just to see if I could hear anything unusual. On the last pass I heard a slight tinny sounding tick that was barely noticeable. Once it cooled down, I pulled the rear heat shields to look for a possible small crack...well, it wasnt a small crack at all ... it was a big crack. Not sure what caused it, maybe excessive heat. It wasnt there when I did the 103 kit Oct 08.
Lucky for me the shop had a set of V&H true dual pipes in stock & thats whats on it now. Im finishing the dyno tuning today & going riding.
Update from today: Bike runs better than ever, pulls like a freight train. Initial 3 pass dyno & minor tweeking.... I got a decent 13.8-14.1 AFR, 87.21 HP & 106.47 TQ. A slight 3 HP & 2 TQ improvement over the stock pipes with a different map.
