Extended warranty is a great idea for some that have no wrenching ability... I have already done so many mods on my 08 with 7K on it The Moco would probably refuse to recognize warranty if needed it ..
Wrenching ability had nothing to do with it for me. I'm an ASE certified mechanic Been wrenching my whole life and rebuilt many Harley motors and trannies, But being as how I should have well over 150,000 Miles on the bike when the 7 years runs out One breakdown out of town will pay the $1,250 it cost me. Plus the fact that it covers road hazards (WINK,WINK) on tires, and room and board and rental for out of town breakdowns I can say for sure That if I live that long It will more then pay for itself. That said: If you don't put many miles on it might not be the way to go.
I bought a 2 year extended warranty when I got my RG in May of 07. It had 33,000 on it when I bought it and now has almost 78,000. It has been well worth it for me. I have had to replace the clutch basket twice, the starter twice, the shift linkage, the speed sensor and a few other items that I can't remember right now. The last trip would have been right at $1,000.00 on it's own and that mostly parts. I think there was less than 2 hours labor on the bill...
Think a few need to read some threads how Harley tries to weasel out of warranty work are many threads about it in here ...
That's why they have Laws pertaining to warranties, Everyone is different If you think it's a bad deal, Don't buy it. I however know it's a good deal for me. Off the subject we are riding to the gulf coast the 20 th If yer interested.

You can buy it before your normal extended warranty runs out... I just did it an got 2 more years.. My bike has 22,000 on it now and I have heard some real horror stories about them at the 30,000 mile marks.... Bike is 2007 Ultra.. The 50.00 deductable is nothing if the crank or cam takes a crap...

I have the extended warranty and Harley dealers won't honor it because of after market mods, like amplifier, radio and pipes etc.
Mine has several, like the pipes, VPC pressure plate, etc. They can't deny your warranty because of aftermarket parts unless that part causes the problem...
