Angry Warning TomTom users

I bought a new 720Go in March after talking to Tomtom about using it on my bike. I wanted a gps that I could play through my speakers.
I was assured the 720 would do the trick, so I puschased one and then I bought a Ram mount to hold it. After using it the first time it quit playing through my speakers. I called tomtom and they told me tough sht I used it on a bike and that voided my warrenty.

So if you buy any Tomtom except their Riders series and it breaks under warrenty DON'T tell them it was on a bike

I work for a company that has a large outside sales force. I too am on the road and drive over 50K per year in the New England area. I purchased a Garmin I Que over 7 years ago. It has worked great but it is a PDA also and too big for my bike. Salesmen in the company asked me about my GPS and they all pretty much went out and bought units. Some buying Garmin, some buying Magellans, and some buying TomToms. I will tell you that people who bought the Garmins and Magellans still have them. Everyone that bought TomToms all ended up getting rid of them. Every single one of them failed. One salesman went through every unit Circuit City had as he was in there every other week getting another on warranty. They finally let him take a more expensive Garmin unit that he still has. I will not ever buy a Tomtom. I'm sure some have had no problems with theirs but I personally have not met one who has kept theirs for more than a year. Great advertising does not make a great product. Just look at the present administration.

Not impressed with the rider unit either. Cannot get spare parts (like power cable), readability is poor, cannot be charged using a USB port, can only be charged from mains using a TT charger, no benefit to having it MAC compatible (main reason I bought it) and did I say expensive. In hind site would buy a cheap GPS and put it in my pocket when it rained

No trouble with my XL One either. Hopefully, there won't be any.

Good info. I'm in the market for a GPS, and I really prefer getting real world input on the product prior to acquisition. Thanks.

One nice thing about the Garmin is some models have traffic for life. I have a Magellan and I love it but I have to pay for traffic if I want it.

That new "Traffic for Life" feature has an annoying little behavior that some may not like. Unless you subscribe to their premium service (monthly fee), anytime you're driving by one of their subscribing vendors (IE, fast food joints, hotels, etc), you'll get a little popup on the screen asking you if you want to change your destination to that location. Your monthly subscription fee will remove those popups.

Just be aware when buying a new Garmin unit, the new models that end in the letter "T" have this feature. We just got the wife a 265WT. Doesn't bother her, but it might bother some. Commercial advertising where you least expect it.
