I put the chrome tourpack hinges on my bike and absolutly love the looks of them, a friend of mine went to the shop and wanted to get them for his bike and they told him they were obsolete and that they were causing the lids to come off for some reason. Anybody have this problem or heard of this happening?
Hard to believe they could be obsolete since they just came out a few months back. I love the looks of the hinges on mine and I wouldn't want to go back to the old style hinges. I can't believe these aren't OEM - except I know the MoCo doesn't like to miss an opportunity to convince us to part with more of our hard-earned coin!
I did check with the dealership and they are obsolete when the run out they are out, we will be the few who have them and will be an elite group, even the CVO's don't have them
I can't see any reason for them to fail, unless the installer didn't use loctite.
I installed mine, and knowing I would never want to remove them, used Red Loctite. I check the screws every once in a while to be sure, but they haven't loosened as yet.
Hope whatever the problemis, they fix it and get these back on the market. I have a few friends that are looking for them.
I was at my local dealership last night, there were a few on his wall. I just checked the HD website and they are still listed. Not sure about them being discontinued....doesn't make sense to me, local guy is running 15% off this weekend, I am going to ask the parts guy. Be Safe JIM
They do look good!
- And oh Yea, I used RED Locktite on all the little screws. I don't ever intend to take this apart and hope that Mother Nature doesn't intend to either.
I don't know what's harder to believe -- that there are lids flying off Tourpaks all over the world without a single post about it in any forum OR that the MoCo found out about a problem and took action.
Seriously, there's a cottage industry that's developed for bagger stabilizers, but you mention the bagger wobble to a dealer and they'll say "Huh? What?"
I really like these hinges, but I will check the screws from time to time. I'll also keep an eye out in the accessories catalog for a "Screamin' Eagle" bungie cord to keep Tourpak lids on...
