Well I have completed the gauge modification. I have added the wedge LEDS http://www.superbrightleds.com/specs/bulb_specs.htm
(order the WLED-X5 in the color for the small guages) you will need to "adjust" the contacts on these to make connection before installing into the guage socket.
The next you will need to do is order the LEDS from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=390042282930
When ordering from this guy make sure you tell him the color of the gauge background (and whether you are doing speed and tach) PLUS what color you want the LCD (Mileage readout) background color is to be. (I chose Blue, takes two larger LEDS). This all worked out well. Not counting the time to remove and reinstall the fairing It took me almost two hours to actually change the LEDS on both the Speedo and Tach guages. I used special desoldering/soldering equuipment (see Pics). I have been doing this type of work for almost 32 years (just getting harder to see! as now I need the help of the Mag light!) I am not sure I would have changed these only using standard equip as the LEDS are VERY small and there is alot of room for Error! as other components are close.
I did not have any issues taking the guages apart to get to the LED board. The most difficult part was the removal of the guage bezel. I have included PICS (Also I am not associated in any way with the people on the links). If you have any questions or would like for me to install your LEDS maybe we can work something out..............Marty.
Thanks all for the comments.........It actually looks nicer in person. I am not sure actuall what it is worth....I had $50.00 for both Speedo and Tach if you furnish the LEDS, Roundtrip shipping and Insurance to 61611 (east Peoria, Illinois). The only thing we will need to coordinate the approx shipping to me as I do not what to have your guages very long as it is riding season and CRAPPIE season! Just let me know PM me or email mssmith57@sbcglobal.net so we can figure the least down time for your scooter. I will do these on a first come basis in the evenings and ship them out the next day unless a Sunday or Holiday is involved. It took me a good two hours for both guages (the bast##ds are small (the whit things on the desoldering unit are my old stock LEDS). Let me know I will try to help out...........(oh took my red ones from the dude in Porto Rico about 9 days or so to arrive) the WEDGE LEDS you can do while your fairing is off just remenber to "Adjust" the contacts on the WEDGE LEDS to make contact and test...................Marty
I tried this but a couple would not work and a couple would not work! I thought Shat! Tested the LEDS and all was fine so ADJusted the contacts on the LEDS and they worked, were not making contact with the Bike socket...........they seem to be well made..........the LEDS for the two large guages????? They appear to be the direct replacement for the originals! except for the color??? I tried to order these myself from our supplier and spent several weeks trying to locate them with no luck so I ordered them from the dude in PR..........Marty.
