My favorite rides all seem to be along farm fields, and the closest to heaven on earth I can get is listening to Allman Brother's Midnight Rider at...yup midnight. There is something incredibly peaceful about riding at night but unfortunately, deer seem to be intent on crashing my party.
I remember those sonic whistles people used to stick on their bumpers that apparently didn't work. Could this serve as more motivation to remove the baffles from my pipes? I have been super-lucky not to hit a deer with a car but I had a close call years ago with a deer on a sport bike.
I actually found some of the deer whistles chrome with chrome mounts on ebay and I told a buddy that had 3 deer run in front of him in 3 days after he got his new ultra and him not being computer savvy told me to buy 2 sets and he would pay for mine ... Hell ya .
They have a chrome mount that sandwiches between the turnsginal mount and they look pretty damn good for deer whistles and although I havent talked to him since work let me go neither one of us saw a deer after we add these to our scoots but who knows... It worked for me and was free .. .ah I dont have a pic showing them but ill get one if you want
Never had a problem, When riding I always see the deer lined up at the "Deer Crossing" sign...They wait until all the traffic passed then cross...
They only thing I found is the High Beam on when nobody around. Stay Alert, I've hit 4 in my lifetime....but not any on bike......not pretty.............
Short of riding around with a bear skin suit on I don't think there's a whistle or bell out there that will keep them away.
I was driving a HUMMV at a training area in southern germany one night wearing night vision googles which had a bad tunnel vision effect when a deer leaped from left to right inches in front of me. It amazingly cleared the front corners of the vehicle. I think the damn thing was hiding in the bushes waiting for me. Probably on a dare from his other drunk deer buddies.
Treat them like an old man in a cage, 1- make eye contact
2- don't trust that they won't jump out anyways
3- try not to ride in that 1 hour befor and after sunrise and set
And carry a big knife, so that if you do hit them, at least you can cut off a coulpe of steaks, and make a cool pair of deer skin gloves
