So I am not worried about the pipes so much as they don't bother me too much. However I am 6'3" tall on my RG and I am running a shorter windshield (10 inch) for looks sake but if I run @ 80 mph the wind is so loud that I can't hear my stereo. I am hoping to find a solution that won't break the bank either. I have tried the orange foam plugs but they are very uncomfortable. Any other ideas or companies that make more comfortable ones. Also what type of decible rating should I be looking for. I have seen the range from 80-105 I just am hoping to cut the wind noise, I like hearing my pipes and I definatly want to hear my stereo. I was also considering buying a clearview windshield (14 inch) to give myself a better riding pocket. Do you think that the windshield would be enuf to cut the bulk of the wind noise?
I had an 04 Road King with Rineharts on it new from the dealer. I have never heard a nicer sounding bike. I just bought an 06 Ultra, everything stock, so I bought true dues from Rineharts along with the power commander and KN air filter. Thought I got a good price on the internet. Got the pipes on in about 7 hours and started up the bike. WAY too loud. Found out you have to buy the "quite baffles" seperat. So another $124 and I get the quite baffles and put them in. Still too loud and nothing like my 04. Sounds like some old rat bike, at least that is my feeling. It doesn't have that deep mellow sound like the 04 pipes. I think Rinehart screwed things up with their new design. Anyone had the same problem?

Has anyone tried wraping the baffles in their Rineharts? I bought the quite baffles and they are nothing like the ones I had several years ago. I miss that deep rumble from what I thought Rinehart was famous for.

I tried the quiet baffles too and hated them.
I've wrapped my standard baffles with fiberglass and it lowers the sound a few db's. Also gives them a little deeper tone. A simple and inexpensive fix.
Just my opinion but reading between the lines the most hearing damage is incurred from wind noise, ( I can confirm after years of tinnitus following a ride from Barcelona in spain to my home just outside of London in about 16 hours and nothing but fuel stops, I wore a shorty carbon type skull cap.....dopey me.
Sure loud pipes can make things worse, I have V&H bigshots on my dyna and the noise from them at times can be a PITA.
I now always ride using purpose made ear plugs, they are a comfort fit and provide a first line of defence.
...........and yep I can still hear my stereo...
hope this is of use.
Cheers

This one of the reasons I wear a 3/4 helmet! No ringing in my ears from wind and pipe noise.
Ditto here... but I already have tinitus so my ears ring all the time anyway. Just dont want to add to the problem so I wear a 3/4 helmet and put the Hawg-Wired system in to get the tunes up in volume to hear clearly at speed.
I never really realize how loud my pipes or system are until I have the lid off.
I love my Rineharts. I'd have to say though, that some earplugs wouldn't be a bad idea on long fast rides. But then, am I gonna hear my radio very well? I have a hard enough time hearing the thing.
Supposedly you will hear the radio better, the ear plugs cut out the wind noise.
