Tomorrow it will be two years since I bought my Road Glide...and the end of the extended warranty I bought with it. This afternoon at about 2:30 and lucky for me, I look down to see that the voltmeter only shows 11.5 volts. I rush home to drop off the hound dog and to call the Harley shop. They say bring it in and they can get right on it.
I get there and tell them the story. They check it out and tell me they want the replace the rotor, stator and voltage regulator. I had already had the stator and rotor replaced under warranty. The service writer asked me if I wanted a rental. I told him I was thinking about it, but was worried about the weather and didn't know if I wanted to pay the $30.00 per day rental.
Well he calls it in to Harley and gets everything covered and a free 2009 RKC loaner for 4 days! He said they would have waived my $50.00 deductable, if they had replaced the voltage regulator the first time, but I'm definitely not complaining. The only complaint I might have is, that this is the first time in 2 years and many warranty issues that required me leaving the bike, that they offered the free loaner.
I also wish I had know that I could have extended the warranty further, but now I have too many miles on the bike. I could have bought it before I had 75,000 miles, but I didn't find out about that until later. I put almost 45,000 miles on the bike in the two years I've owned it.
Yes I bought the extended warranty and yes it worked for me. Today's bill would have been at least $750.00. They definitely didn't make any money off me buying the warranty. YMMV....
Good deal for you man. Thats why i buy them my bike will have probably over 30,000 on it at the 2year mark and i got the warranty up to 5yrs wish i had gotten the 7 year and still may. Right now i got 27,000 on my bike and have two more months before its 2yrs old if you ride them that much i believe the extended warranty is worth it. If you ride the bike for 7years and only put 10k on it i probably wouldn't buy it. But in 7 years my bike will easily have 80,000 miles on it. probably more.
I knew how much I was going to ride and how much the bike had been modified. (Damn that rhymed! ) It only make sense (and lots of cents!) to me. The $1,069.00 I paid was a bargain. I have had the stator and rotor replaced twice, the clutch basket twice, the starter, the speed sensor, the complete shift linkage, and one or two other items...
