Guys, Do any of you know anyone who makes covers or any way to dress-up the 4 rocker switchs on the lower fairing (FLHT-Ultra). I have this nice repainted inner fairing, new gauge faces by Nu-Image and these faded, crappy, 6 year old switchs. I know some companies chrome plastic but these would be tough to get apart and they have a red/green light in the center that would prohibit chroming (I think). Thanks
Gary, I came very close to having them painted to match the inner fairing and fairing cap during my recent paint project. The lights would be easy to mask, though the lettering would be covered by the paint.
I decided against doing it primarily because I was concerned about the (posssible/likely) degradation of the finish caused by use. Still, if I was doing a show bike, I'd paint them to match.
If they are badly worn, just buy new ones or try some plastic restorative product to bring them back to life.
I have never been really satisfied with rechromed plastic. New switches would be an option, but they'll obviously still be black. Can't believe the MOCO has overlooked this sales opportunity.
I found a chrome set of flat plates with cut-outs for the switches. 3 pieces total, one one either side of the ignition and one for the ignition plate. I bought them on ebay and cannot find them again now when I search. I think I got them from American Classic Motors.
I think I also saw them in the latest J&P Cycles catalog.
FWIW, they look nice but when the sun hits them just right it can be pretty distracting!
Ok - I found a place, MM Metalizing somewhere in California that says they can chrome plate the switchs, now if I can just get them apart, the "Rocker" part of the switch has a pin that is bradded on one end. I guess if it was easy someone would have already done this before. We'll see, worst that can happen is I'll have to buy new switchs.
Made so there's no reflection from the sun...I was going to order but between the chrome trim around the gauges and speaker grills and the flat finish on the radio face trim, another type of finish would probably not look right....
