I plan to add a GPS soon and was wondering what the preferred mounting is for a touring bike.
I just added the Garmin Nuvi 760 using a Ram-Mount system on my handlebars. I've not even taken it on a trip yet (that comes Monday) so my review is based on just the local ride. But so far I like it mounted on the grips high enough that I can see it but out of the way of the gauges. Here's a quick picture I took tonight after 10:00 (about 10 minutes ago), and after I get a few more things added tomorrow I'll try to post a better pic ...
I've got a NUVI 760 and I have a mount from Ramm that uses the mirror shaft bolt for a mount. Nothing on the bars. Seeings as how I rarely use it, I didn't want something gaudy on my bars.
Handle bar works for me, and I use Ram Mount, GPSCity.com is where I got mine after looking around at the prices. Personally, I like this one and use this one http://www.gpscity.com/item-ram-moun.../ramb309-2.htm
this way you can use more then one mount, just look up the GPS you have and I am sure they have one to fit you.
I use the same thing with my Tom Tom and its sweet
As suggested above, a screen that's mounted center and near eye-level.
This mounting position doesn't require the driver to move his head...just a slight glance downward. Much safer as it allows a good portion of the road to remain in view.
After church today the wife and I rode up to the local dealer. They were pretty slow and had lots of time to demonstrate the unit and let me play with it. Actually the sales manager has one on his SE Ultra and I sat on his bike and tried it out. I was very impressed at the ease of use, I like how it talks to you through the stock stereo system, I like having all the Harley dealers already loaded in and I especially like having the SD sim card slot for music.
So long story short we purchased the HD unit. I got 10% off and a free handle bar mount kit which actually came with the unit.

I'll post some pictures as soon as I get it installed.
Thanks again to everyone the replied.
