I was doing 1000 mile service today and when I pulled the transmission plug it had threads all around it. I first thought they were some shavings from internal but when I went to put plug back in it wouldn't tighten. WTF? I assume I am now stuck calling dealer to have bike picked up so they can tap a new hole for a new larger plug?
Thoughts? anyone have this happen? My first time servicing bike and here we go, first problem. All else was going well and then the problem that leaves me likely back at dealer anyway.
Thanks.

Kind of depends on your dealer, but it sounds like new pan time. If the plug has never been removed before it sounds like a defective pan, or improper installation at the factory. A good dealer will take care of it under warranty. A poor dealer will claim it's your fault. Worth a try for the warranty fix if you ask me. If that doesn't work you could check into heli-coil if there's enough meat in the pan.
thanks, going to stop by in the a.m. and see what they say. Prob. now is getting bike there. Either way its gonna cost me something I am sure!! And right when I got my seat back from Mean City and I can't even test it out!!

I had that problem when I pulled the engine oil plug at 850mi. on my new (then) '07 Streetglide. I notified the dealer and they replaced the pan and didn't even charge me for the new oil. Brought it in in the morning and rode home that afternoon. Don't settle for less than a new pan, you paid for a good one with the price of the bike.
Went there this a.m. and waited for them to open. Of course, the MGR was not in and may not be in today! Service guy at desk of course starts out by saying, doubt it will be covered under warranty since we didn't do the maintenance. Anyway, I will keep you posted but starting off as expected.
Just talked to Service Mgr. He offered to call Harley himself and request warranty work on new pan and tow but says I will have a better chance if I make call myself. I think they are just backing off and bascially saying, its on you not us, so you figure it out. Thoughts?
